from £69.00

The Mighty ‘SQUEEZE.

This is the Finale and final shot of Squeeze on stage at London’s Roundhouse.

This image was taken on Friday 22nd of November, 2024. This was the last day of the Squeeze, US & UK tour. I have photographed Squeeze quite a lot, starting in the late 1970s, and this year was no different. On this last day of the tour, my day started with me heading to do a shoot with an artist at Abbey Road Studios, London. I am lucky enough to have been frequenting that great British institution since my early days as a photographer in the mid-1970s. Once I had finished at Abbey Road, I raced around to The Roundhouse. It was a big night. Well, every night with Squeeze is big. They are, without a doubt, one of my favourite all-time bands. When I arrived and headed backstage, I said hello to everyone. That includes all of the crew, too. It is a big, wonderful family. The big difference between this gig and all other gigs this year was that it was being filmed. This is great news for all Squeeze fans, but this creates problems for photographers on the night. You cannot just travel around a stage and get into positions you usually would.I remember a few years back being on the side of a stage with a band or artists (I can't remember who), and another, somewhat inexperienced photographer was standing for quite a while right in front of a little camera that was set up on the side of the stage. That caused quite a commotion among the video crew and director during the day. So, before the show, the lovely Steve Martin, part of the management, took me to meet the video director, Johnny. We then worked out how I would be where I needed to be at the show's end, which was right behind the band as they bowed for the last time this year on this big transatlantic tour. I needed not to be in the way of the many cameras. All was sorted, and as the show came to an end, I got myself into the position. As the band gathered together and bowed to the cheering and thrilled audience, they turned around to me, and I took this shot. You can see the sheer delight and excitement on all of their faces. I have to say, that was always the same after every gig I have been on. I would say that I know all of the band members quite well, and it is glaringly evident to me that every Squeeze member appreciates all the wonderful fans who are so loyal. As I write this, I am listening to Squeeze; I am a fan, too. They are quite a unique British band, and they are loved here in the UK and worldwide. Let's be honest: Chris Difford & Glenn Tilbrook are amongst the greatest songwriters of all time. They are not just songs; they are stories that transport one (me) to the place and time that Chris has written about as Glenn completes the musical journey with such exquisite melodies, key changes and vocals; his guitar playing is world-class, and he is, for me, one of the greatest guitarists in the world. No, he is not a rock-screaming show-off but talented beyond belief. Chris Difford & Glenn Tilbrook are true Rock and Roll Royalty and individually fantastic band members, making Squeeze a unique and very special band.

This photo, for me, epitomises the excitement and oozes showmanship and happiness. It is a great shot to have on anyone's wall. If you buy one for yourself, a relative or a friend, I can tell you it will look wonderful and tends to make people ask about Squeeze when people see it. How do I know? Well, I had one printed straight after the show, and it's on my wall, and everyone who sees it says, ‘Wow, who is that and where?” Then we talked about Squeeze for a bit, which was rather nice!
